to lie

To lie
in your arms
your warmth
and to not fear.

To lie

in another sense
in a world
that calls for
too much of it.

home away from

My feet took

me home

before I realized it was

no longer home.

The doors that once welcomed

stood ajar

aloof.

My childhood propped

against the railing, spokes

bent and rusted.

My aspirations marked

with notches on the door jamb.

We age the same, and now

we see the same –

yet to find our home

away from

but it’s not for me to give.

enough to be me

Forgiveness

is elusive

ethereal entity.

Because you meant so much

I can only forget so little.

I can bear the thousand daggers

tap-dancing on my back;

the frozen void snowed over

where my heart used to be.

You say I can, you say I should

but can’t you see?

I’m not strong enough

to be me.
