We were gods

We were gods

yet

enslaved to our passions

prostrate before our idols.

Our pedestals

lower than the dirt beneath

our feet

children’s sandcastles overshadow

our feats.

We were gods

yet

bowed before wood & stone

obsequious to a skeleton throne –

we worship all

praise all

but ourselves.
