Were naive, were foolish, were stupid –
But there we were
Newfound weaned from the ignorance of childhood
Caressed by the tenderness of dissipating motherhood.
Having no claim on the world
But that of responsibility.
Having no say in the world
But “repeat after me”.
Making mistakes beyond number
Merciful green blunders;
To one day look back in wonder.
We were green,
We were gold,
