God’s hunger, God’s thirst (Psalm 50)

The cattle on a thousand hills

Belongs to all but One.

As planets in their orbital dance

Owe allegiance to the Sun.

Not hunger, nor thirst

would He beseech us satisfaction.

But wonder, but nurse,

Doth He promise benefaction.

The animals – He named.

The insects – He tamed.

He made them and they are His.

Bring Him but your gratitude –

not food, your attitude

and His love shall like the dawn

be renewed.
